About

Hello! Welcome to my website!

You can call me Chris. Cause that’s my name. Well, my full name is Christopher Daniel Witmer, but no one calls me that. Most people call me Chris or Christopher. Mostly Chris. Actually, come to think of it, a lot of my friends just say “Hey man” when the see me. I guess that’s fine, too.

Life can be rough, sometimes. I know because I’ve felt it’s waves slam up against my boat. It breaks my heart to see people fighting the waves alone–or giving up altogether. I don’t have a lot of answers but I do have my story and the few answers that have helped me along the way. Jon Acuff once said that sharing the truth about ourselves and our struggles gives others the “tremendous gift of going second.”

That’s why I write: To shout out to whoever will hear me: “Hey. You’re not alone. We can get through this. Land is in sight.”

I live in Los Angeles, California with my Dad and my sister, as well as six other non-related young people. (Why we live with six non-related young people is a long story that I’ll tell some other time.)

I was born in Canada, but only because back then it was cheaper to give birth in Canada than in the States. You can’t do it now, but apparently back in the ‘90s you could just hop across the Minnesota/Ontario border to have your kids. I wasn’t really cognitive back then, so I don’t remember much.

So, yes, that means I’m technically half Canadian (and I’m not ashamed of that). However, I spent my childhood across the border in the Northern Minnesotan town of International Falls in Koochiching County (and I’m not ashamed of that either). This delightful small town of six thousand people is known primarily for showing up on national weather stations as an example of how cold a place can get and people still choose to live there. (This put a love for winter in my bones.)

How my family got to Los Angeles is kind of a long story, too (I have many long stories), that I talk a lot about in my blog posts and on my YouTube channel because it made a big impact on my life.

Suffice it to say, right now, that we moved from the “Icebox of the Nation” to the “Tinderbox of the Nation” to plant churches and help the Christian book distributor Choice Books expand its footprint in Southern California.

I love to read and write. I’ve loved it ever since I knew how. Naturally, that’s been my main “go-to” for processing life and connecting with other people, which is a big reason I write.

I like to write about life and God’s story in my life. I struggle a lot with doubt, loneliness, and a bunch of other stuff, too, which usually winds up on paper as raw prose, floppy poetry, or some strange mix of the two.

I hate the thought of anyone doing life alone, so if you struggle too, I would love to invite you into my journey! We’re more likely to survive together than apart, anyhow.

If you’re interested, you can subscribe to my email list, follow me on my various social media channels and check out this list of my favorite blog posts that I’ve compiled for you (it will help you get to know me better):

Good to have you here!

Blessings!
